The statewide poll, which comes a day after the state Assembly approved the so-called ‘Green Light’ bill by an 87-61, found that 55% of residents support the bill and 35% are opposed.
“The facts continue to be on our side as we seek to restore access to driver’s licenses to all," said Javier Valdes, the co-executive director of Make the Road. “New Yorkers responded to the poll results: New Yorkers support this common-sense measure that will improve road safety, boost the economy, and help keep families together.”
Supporters say the bill would be a boon to state coffers and improve road safety in the state by making immigrants who drive take road tests and get insurance and annual vehicle inspections.
