New Jersey Playbook 10.15.19 — Gov. Murphy to endorse Jersey City’s new restrictions on Airbnb

WADING IN — Gov. Murphy is about to endorse Jersey City’s new restrictions on AirBnb, which the city council passed are on the ballot this year after the company helped collect thousands of signatures in an effort to cancel them out. I’m told he’ll tweet his support this morning. The governor, in endorsing a yes vote on the referendum, is siding with the New York Hotel Trades Council (as well as other organized labor groups) and Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop. It’s not surprising that Murphy would side with a labor union, but it seems unusual for a governor to weigh in on a local ballot question like this.
